“HUMANISTIC BUDDHISM” OF TAI XU AND SOCIAL INVOLVEMENT OF BUDDHISM IN THE CONTEMPORARY REALITIES OF CHINA

The article examines the concept of humanistic Buddhism, put forward by one of the lea-ders of the renovation movement in China, Tai Xu. Its influence on the modern development
of Buddhism in China is considered. It is shown that the most important component of this concept is the social involvement of Buddhism. It is indicated that the origins of this concept go back to the early period of the development of Buddhist teaching, when Buddhism was divided into Hinayana and Mahayana. The practice of social involvement in the Chan school, as well as its place and role in the social and political processes of modern China are considered.
