The article discusses the relationship between the historical development of the \u014cbaku sect with the port of Nagasaki, the only city open to foreigners at that time. \u014cbaku was the third direction of Japanese Zen Buddhism, which appeared in Japan with the arrival of Chinese emigrant monks during the Edo period (1603\u20131868). It is shown that the situation in Nagasaki, where the largest Chinese diaspora lived, had a key influence on the formation of the \u014cbaku sect at an early stage of its history, since Chinese, European and Japanese traditions intersected in the unique appearance of this city. In addition, Nagasaki continues to be a prominent stronghold of the sect today, playing a significant role in maintaining the distinctive sinicized image of \u014cbaku.<\/p>\n
