BUDDHISM AND THE NATIONAL QUESTION IN THE HISTORY OF THE BURYATS<\/strong><\/p>\n

The article examines the author\u2019s vision of the formation of the national state of the Mongols (Buryats) on the ruins of the Mongol Empire, associated with the need to develop a state ideology as a founding factor in the formation of a centralized society. However, the traditional scheme of consolidation of closely related ethnic groups based on the recognition of Buddhism as a state ideology played a negative role in the history of the post-Mongol Empire. Moreover, Buddhism was used by external forces as a tool for leveling the military spirit of the formerly powerful Mongols (Buryats) in order to eliminate a constant source of instability in the region \u2012 \u00abInner Asia\u00bb. The fact is that Buddhism differs significantly from other faiths in its aspiration for the edge of the existing universe. Hence, in our opinion, the Mongolian ethnic groups became victims of a hostile environment for many centuries, up to the revolutionary transformations of the early twentieth century.<\/p>\n
